‘It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’ Star Rob McElhenney To Bring Horror-Comedy To Rooster Teeth

Digital studio Rooster Teeth has announced a content deal with one of its most notable partners yet. The Austin-based media company will team up with Rob McIlhenney, best known as the co-creator and co-star of the FX sitcom It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, for a horror-comedy titled Spikeface.

Spikeface will tell the story of a “horror icon” who agitates his equally devilish roommates after choosing to adopt the orphaned child of a couple he kills. That sounds like the sort of dark premise that will appeal to fans of It’s Always Sunny, which has displayed its own black comedy sensibilities across a dozen seasons. McElhenney is serving as executive producer of Spikeface through RCG, the studio he founded alongside It’s Always Sunny co-stars Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton.

“So many of us at Rooster Teeth are huge fans of Rob and we can’t wait to help him and his team bring Spikeface

to life,” said Rooster Teeth chief creative officer Burnie Burns in a statement. Burns said the deal “sends a really strong message to young people: if you study, work hard and produce over a decade of top-quality beloved network television programming, well then maybe you can get your own show on the internet too.”

This will not be Rooster Teeth’s first dip into the world of horror-comedy. Its third feature film, Blood Fest, is a self-aware slasher flick that premiered at SXSW.

The cast and release date of Spikeface are not yet known. Whenever the project does premiere, it will be available through Rooster Teeth FIRST, the studio’s $4.99-per-month subscription service.
