Six months after she landed at Comedy Central, Jen Danielson has unveiled a big project she’s working on. Danielson, who came to the Viacom-owned network after previously serving as the President of the digital comedy brand Above Average, will oversee the launch of The Creators Program, a short-form, digital news series modeled after the iconic Comedy Central hit The Daily Show.
The Creators Program will be hosted by the six smiling faces pictured above, who will show up once a day to dish on pop culture, current events, and other goings-on. The style of the episodes will be specifically modeled after The Daily Show, which has run on Comedy Central since 1996. “This is Comedy Central’s biggest investment ever in digital and social content,” Danielson said. “When [Jordan] Peele won the Oscar [for the ‘Get Out’ screenplay], the best we could do was release a congratulatory video. Now we have a show where we can talk about it.”
In addition to the newsy episodes, The Creators Program will also incorporate behind-the-scenes episodes that will take a comedic look at the work culture at Comedy Central. That premise sounds kind of like Hardly Working, which highlights the inter-office rapport of CollegeHumor employees.
To lead The Creators Program, however, Danielson has turned to a Funny or Die vet, enlisting Nate Dern as the show’s creative director. Details about Dern about the Creators Program cast members can be found over at Variety. Read up before the show’s premiere; it’s expected to arrive in May on Comedy Central’s YouTube and Facebook channels.
