Cheddar Joins Hulu’s Live TV Lineup 1 Day After Being Added To YouTube TV

One day after joining the YouTube TV lineup, streaming financial news startup Cheddar is bringing its flagship channel to Hulu’s skinny bundle, launching later this month. As part of the partnership, Cheddar will also provide daily news previews and recaps on Hulu’s on-demand service.

While only Cheddar’s flagship channel is coming to Hulu Live TV, the media startup — which raised $22 million in venture funding last month — concurrently launched a second general news channel, Cheddar Big News, on YouTube TV. (YouTube TV reportedly has other linear channels in the works from digital-first publishers like The Young Turks and Tastemade).

“Both Hulu and Cheddar are reinventing TV,” said the latter’s founder and CEO, Jon Steinberg, in a statement. “We are thrilled to partner with Hulu and to bring our news to its 17 million subscribers. It’s amazing that anyone planning to watch season 2 of The Handmaid’s Tale, catching up on Atlanta, watching some Rick And Morty, or enjoying the NBA playoffs can tune to Cheddar for tech and business news.”

Hulu’s Live TV service, like YouTube TV, is priced at $39.99 per month for roughly 50 channels. The company’s SVP and head of partnerships and distribution, Tim Connolly, said that “live TV viewers watched more than 24 million hours of news in the first quarter of 2018, so clearly they are hungry for news content.”
