Netflix Poaches Amazon’s Monique Meche To Serve As VP Of Global Public Policy

Netflix has poached former Amazon executive Monique Meche to serve as VP of global public policy, as the streaming giant continues its critical international push.

Meche, who will be based in Washington, D.C., formerly served as Amazon’s VP of international public policy for a little over four years. Prior to Amazon, she held similar roles at Cisco and Intel. Meche will now lead Netflix’s government affairs operations across the 190 countries where the service is available, according to Recode, as well as help the streaming giant contend with various regulatory disputes across Europe and beyond.

For instance, the European Union is currently weighing a law that would require streaming services like Netflix and Amazon

to make 20% to 30% of their content in Europe, according to Recode, and regulators are considering new taxes on U.S.-based tech giants who operate internationally. For instance, a French law passed last month will require Netflix to pay a 2% tax on all local revenues.
