Great Big Story Courts Spanish-Language Viewers Through A Channel Filled With “Historias”

Great Big Story is rolling out an offering en español. The CNN-backed video platform, which serves up short-form documentary pieces to its social media followers, has launched Great Big Historias, a channel on YouTube and Facebook that features Spanish-language videos.

While the language featured on Great Big Historias may be different from that of a typical Great Big Story video, the two channels are united in their desire to share sharply-produced stories about curious people, places, and things. One of the first clips to arrive on Great Big Historias features a matador who is known for leaping over bulls, while another focuses on an artist who weaves colorful skulls into his work.

“Great Big Historias draws on the rich heritage of Hispanic culture, offering fans the same intrigue and

excitement that they’ve always come to expect from the GBS brand,” reads a post introducing the new venture. “From an explorer of natural caves in Mexico to a Los Angeles-based artist known as the “Skeleton of Color,” Great Big Historias will take viewers on a visual, sensory-awakening ride through amazing and awe-inspiring tales.”

With its own flashy videos, Great Big Historias will look to capture the same young audience that Great Big Story has reached on multiple platforms, particularly Facebook. There, the two-year-old company has more than 4.7 million followers.

Great Big Story first revealed its plan to launch a channel aimed at Hispanic viewers during CNN’s presentation at the 2017 NewFronts. At that time, the company’s Spanish-language project was referred to as Great Big Cuentos.
