Facebook Comic Laura Clery To Launch Snapchat Series With Comedy Central

Digital creator Laura Clery, who Facebook highlighted as one of its homegrown stars during VidCon earlier this summer, is set to launch a new sketch comedy series on Comedy Central’s Snapchat Discover channel today.

Clery, who counts 3.2 million fans on Facebook, rose to renown for her various character creations — including Ivy, a stupid Instagram model, and the spiritual guru and cooking expert Pamela Pupkin. In the three-episode Snapchat series, called The Laura Clery Project, the 31-year-old will interact with various characters — as played by herself — via face-morphing technology. These characters include a murderous baby, a bearded man, and a perverted 70-year-old woman, Variety reports.

The show doesn’t feature Snapchat’s own selfie lenses given that Comedy Central could eventually distribute it elsewhere. Therefore, the team partnered with post-production company Bubba’s Chop Shop to alter Clery’s facial features, according to Variety. The Laura Clery Project debuts today, and Comedy Central has an option to order additional episodes.

While Clery’s latest venture will feature a different cast of characters, a handful of her most beloved creations are set to remain on Facebook. Her aggressively flirtatious Helen Horbath character, for instance, already has her own show on Facebook’s new Watch platform called Help Helen Smash, and Clery told Variety that she’s seeking investors to fund an animated series based on Helen. Clery is also developing a Facebook show for Pamela Pupkin alongside production companies Canvas Media Studios and eOne for Watch.

Clery, who is a first-time Streamy nominee this year, is also working with digital talent manager Larry Shapiro on A Separate Entity — a brand new a production company that is enlisting online video stars as commercial directors.
