ABC News Partners With Social Video Producer ATTN: For Series Of Segments

ABC News wants to increase its presence on social media, and to accomplish that goal, it is linking up with a company that has built itself up as one of the premier producers in the social space. ATTN:, known as a source for viral clips that tend to be politically-conscious and left-leaning, has joined forces with the network news hub for a series of at least 10 videos.

The videos born out of the partnership between ABC News and ATTN: will range between one and ten minutes in length and will be designed for social distribution. ABC will supply the footage for these clips, drawing from stalwart shows like Nightline, Good Morning America, and World News Tonight.

While both ABC News and ATTN: will share the co-produced videos on their respective channels, the latter company will be able to provide more social reach. ATTN:’s Facebook page

has about 4.7 million followers, and the brand has recently ramped up its efforts on YouTube as well. In this case, it will split ad revenue with ABC.

For ABC, the ATTN: deal is a way to keep pace with rival NBC, which recently announced a big foray into social news video called Left Field. “Partnering with ATTN: allows us to experiment even further with new formats,” said Colby Smith, VP of ABC News Digital, in a statement. “We will take compelling stories and interviews and craft them in a way that feels organic to our digital platforms.”

According to Variety, ABC and ATTN: will share their first co-produced video at some point in the next six weeks, with the rest following over the next six months.
