AwesomenessTV CEO Wants To Do Political Content Aimed At Younger Audiences

At Recode‘s annual Code Media conference, AwesomenessTV CEO Brian Robbins gave an interesting talk about his company’s goals going forward. In addition to imploring YouTube to support more premium content, Robbins noted that the current climate in Washington has him itching to create some political content aimed at his network audience of teens and tweens.

Robbins believes young people are becoming more invested in politics because he has noticed a shift in his conversations with his two sons, who are 17 and 18. “We’ve grown up talking about sports and stuff, and all of a sudden, all of our conversations with my two boys is politics, and it’s about what’s going on,” said Robbins

. “If my kids want to talks about it so much, my audience wants to talk about it too…An audience that really wasn’t that interested is now really interested.”

AwesomenessTV’s quest for politically-charged content could fit into its scripted content plans, which are heavily tied to Verizon’s Go90 platform. Robbins speculated about a potential series that would take place in a town that has been starkly divided and policed with a heavy dose of law and order. The potential allegory there is not hard to suss out.
