If you want to grow your presence on YouTube and other social media networks, you might as well learn from the best. A group of top online video stars, including Ownage Pranks, Simple Pickup, Just Kidding Films, Vitaly Zdorovetskiy, and David So, have launched Jumpcut, a subscription-based digital service that offers comprehensive courses across a dozen different web video-related subjects.
Each Jumpcut lesson is broken down across multiple videos, with the platform’s founding stars showing up to offer tips in their personal areas of expertise. David So, for example, uses his experience with digital comedy to teach students how to make a winning vlog. After a brief introduction, he offers paying subscribers more than 40 minutes of instruction, covering every corner of the vlogosphere.
Jumpcut is reminiscent of the YouTube Creator Academy, a service launched in 2013 that also provides videomaking tips for aspiring creators. The two entities have two main differences: Jumpcut’s lessons are far more comprehensive, but they’re also quite expensive, especially compared to the free Creator Academy videos. After a free 30-day trial period, a subscription to Jumpcut will set you back $17 per month
.“This is something we WISH we had when we first started out,” said Just Kidding Films founders Bart Kwan and Joe Jo in a press release. “We were screwed over so many times….and had to learn things the really, REALLY hard way. That’s why we were so pumped to create something like this — it jumpstarts new creators to success.”
Jumpcut Academy was recently accepted into the Y-Combinator program, through which it will receive additional funding. With that support, the platform’s founding members plan to greatly expand the number of courses they offer.
