You Can Now Add Stickers To Your Twitter Photos That Are Searchable Like Written Hashtags

Images on Twitter are about to get a lot more giddily expressive — and a lot more interactive. The company announced today the launch of ‘#Stickers’ — hundreds of cartoon-like images of hats, skulls, bunny ears, and emojis that users will be able insert into their photos. Multiple Stickers can be used on the same photo, and they can be resized, rotated and placed anywhere on an image, Twitter says.

And in addition to serving as a fun way to accessorize and decorate pictures, Stickers will also serve as a visual hashtag of sorts. Clicking on any given Sticker inside a photo will bring up a feed of other photos featuring the same Sticker. This is akin to the way that people can track a global timeline of information by clicking on a written hashtag.

A library featuring hundreds of different Sticker options will include different categories, like accessories, animals, food, technology, and flags, Twitter says, as well as a ‘Featured’ category that will comprise graphics tied to current world events, holidays, and other themes.

Stickers will roll out on iOS and Android in the next few weeks, Twitter said, and will also be viewable and clickable on desktops.

“By making stickers searchable like hashtags, we’re enabling the best of Twitter: making it easy for people to create conversations around events and experiences that are happening right now,” said Twitter CMO Leslie Berland in a statement. Senior product manager Sasank Reddy added in a company blog post that the feature would help to amplify the “millions” of photo Tweets that are sent out every day.
