Hayes Grier, Meghan Rienks Among Cast Of AwesomenessTV Horror Thriller On Hulu

While it is best known for the videos it produces on YouTube, AwesomenessTV has brought its tween- and teen-centric videos to a number of platforms across TV and the web. The latest destination where AwesomenessTV is headed is Hulu, as the two companies have partnered for a horror series called Freakish.

Freakish, which will consist of ten episodes, will take place at a high school, where a group of students will try to fend off a horde of deranged mutants that have spawned from a local chemical plant. AwesomenessTV’s productions tend to feature a lot of social media stars among their respective casts, and this one is no different. Performers who will appear in Freakish include Hayes Grier, Meghan Rienks, and Liza Koshy, all of whom have built up sizable followings on YouTube and other digital platforms.

While Freakish will be AwesomenessTV’s first series for Hulu, the two companies are led by execs who have shared roots in the TV industry. “Our Gen Z audience craves binge-worthy, on-demand entertainment, which is why we’re excited to be in business with Hulu,” said Shelley Zimmerman

, head of scripted series for AwesomenessTV, in a press release. “Brian Robbins and I have had a longstanding relationship with Craig Erwich, and we look forward to collaborating with him and his team to bring Freakish to Hulu.”

Beyond Freakish, Hulu has also picked up exclusive streaming rights for two other AwesomenessTV productions: Tyler Oakley documentary Snervous and Janoskians: Untold and Untrue, a vehicle for its titular comedy group. Those two films are already available on Hulu, while Freakish is currently in production. The horror series will premiere “later this year.”
