BuzzFeed Could Extend Its Live Presence On Facebook With Game Show

Last Friday, BuzzFeed captivated viewers with a Facebook live stream in which two of its employees wrapped rubber bands around a watermelon until it exploded. More than 40 minutes and 680 rubber bands into the stream, it had reached 800,000 concurrent viewers, making it one of the most popular live videos in Facebook history.

How do you follow up such a huge success? If you’re BuzzFeed, you invite your fans to come on down! The viral content company is reportedly considering a game show that would air live on Facebook, according to comments made by founder and CEO Jonah Peretti at Facebook’s F8 conference.

Variety, which shared a report from F8, didn’t offer any details on the shape a BuzzFeed game show would take, but that format is just one concept the content company is exploring as it pushes into the live streaming territory Facebook is eager to support. Another idea is to turn worldwide BuzzFeed offices into reality show sets, thus giving viewers a look into its day-to-day operations. If an employee got stuck in an elevator, for example, BuzzFeed could stream the proceeding events. With that in mind, if I ever visit a BuzzFeed office, I’m definitely taking the stairs.
