Netflix is ready to bring back one of its superhero-themed shows for subscribers around the world. The streaming video platform will release season two of its original Marvel series Daredevil on March 18, 2016.
Executive produced by Douglas Petrie, Jeph Loeb, and new showrunner Marco Ramirez, Daredevil tells the story of lawyer Matt Murdock (played by Boardwalk Empire’s Charlie Cox) who seeks to clean up Hell’s Kitchen as the titular masked vigilante by night. In a promo trailer for Daredevil season two, Netflix brings viewers inside a Catholic church and reveal a series of classic paintings like Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel which are altered to feature the series’ characters instead. At the end of the clip, the church’s windows shatter, implying even more dark times ahead for Murdock’s agenda.
Several photos from Daredevil also reveal new and familiar characters set to appear in season two, including Elektra (played by Elodie Yung) and Frank Castle aka the Punisher (Jon Bernthal):
Netflix originally picked up Daredevil in late 2013. The series was renewed for a second season in April 2015, when Ramirez was brought on board to replace season one’s showrunner Steven S. DeKnight. Previous to today’s announcement, rumors circulated around the web Netflix would debut season two of Daredevil on March 25, which would have conflicted with the theatrical release of the Warner Bros. and DC Comics film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
You can catch all season two episodes of Daredevil on Netflix starting March 18.
