Netflix had a busy day at CES on January 6th, and among its other announcements, it revealed sizzle reels for a pair of upcoming series. Those series are The Crown and The Get Down, and they’ll both arrive at some point in 2016.
The Crown, which will be Netflix’s first original series in the UK, will also be one of its grandest productions to date. The historical drama, which was officially picked up in November 2014, is rumored to have a budget in excess of $170 million. Each season will chronicle a different era in the life of Queen Elizabeth II; the first one will depict her as a young adult portrayed by actress Claire Foy.
The Get Down rhymes with The Crown, and it’s also a historical series, but that’s where the similarities end. It will take place in the South Bronx in the 1970s, where it will follow the rise of musical styles like hip-hop, punk, and disco. Its sizzle reel displays several hallmarks of creator Baz Luhrmann, including his penchant for colorful costumes and intricate choreography.
Specific release dates for The Crown and The Get Down have not yet been announced.
