Amazon Obtains Exclusive Streaming Rights To USA Network’s ‘Mr. Robot’

After landing exclusive streaming rights to Sex and the City, Amazon has closed its next streaming deal. The ecommerce giant and video subscription service has obtained exclusive SVOD rights to the USA Network cyber-drama series Mr. Robot.

Produced by Universal Cable Productions, Mr. Robot tells the story of the anti-social information security engineer Elliot (played by Rami Malek), who uses his computer skills for hacking good at night. Elliot eventually gets recruited by another hacker (Christian Slater) to take down the very company and executives who employ him. Mr. Robot proved popular with viewers; the show currently boasts a nine out of ten rating on imdb.com, and USA Networks ordered a second season before it even aired on TV.

Through a deal with USA Network’s parent company NBCUniversal, Amazon Prime Instant Video will boast the first season of Mr. Robot for U.S. Prime subscribers starting the spring of 2016. According to Variety, Prime subscribers in the U.K. will get the series sooner on October 16, 2015, while Prime members in Germany and Austria can watch Mr. Robot starting November 20. Amazon will also release the USA Network series in Japan.

Mr. Robot is one of the most compelling new dramas on television,” said Brad Beale, Amazon VP of Digital Video Content Acquisition, in a release. “Rami Malek delivers a mesmerizing performance and leads a great cast with an intriguing story full of dark twists. Prime members are going to love binging on this awesome show.”

Mr. Robot is a tremendous success and Amazon Prime has provided a great opportunity to make the show even more accessible to audiences,” added Frances Manfredi, President of NBCUniversal Television and New Media Distribution. “We are pleased that Amazon recognizes the high quality of NBCUniversal’s content and is partnering with us in a network friendly way that allows viewers to watch the show when and where they want it.”

Prime subscribers can watch the USA Network show when it becomes available in their region via the Amazon Video app for TVs, connected and mobile devices, or through amazon.com/PrimeVideo. And thanks to a new Amazon Prime policy, Instant Video users will also be able to download all ten episodes of Mr. Robot and watch the content offline.
