Among their other uses, YouTube’s creator-focused Spaces are valuable as hubs for site-wide tentpoles that celebrate specific genres and topics. The latest pop culture icon bringing his creations to YouTube Spaces is Stan Lee, who has teamed up with the world’s largest video site for “World of Superheroes,” a superhero videomaking contest.
“World of Superheroes” will be active at five (New York, Los Angeles, London, Tokyo, Sao Paulo) of the six YouTube Spaces around world. The recently-announced Berlin space is the only one not included in the event. As with YouTube’s other tentpoles, each location will feature sets such as science labs and command centers, on which participating creators can film their own superhero shorts. Green screen facilities allow creators to use effects complete their projects.
Creators who have descended upon YouTube Space LA in order to work on their projects include Machinima, TheBrothersRiedell, Adi Shankar, and Lana McKissack. Their completed efforts will be released on their official channels and promoted on Lee’s World of Heroes channel. Out of all the participants, 12 will win a script consultation with Lee’s POW! Entertainment, six more will earn a tete-a-tete with Lee himself, and additional winners will be selected to appear on panels at Lee’s Comikaze Expo.
“We’re celebrating the superhero genre and I’m excited to partner with YouTube Spaces to help develop ideas and create new superheroes along with some of the most brilliant and creative minds in the entertainment industry,” said Lee in a release. The comic legend provided more details in a video released on the official channel of YouTube Space LA.
Adjacent to its collaboration with Lee, YouTube continues to celebrate 26 of its defining themes with an A-to-Z celebration of its 10th birthday. New installments of that series are being released each day throughout May on the YouTube Trends blog.
