Videos for children and families regularly top our Tubefilter charts, and one of YouTube’s most prominent networks has completed a deal that will allow it to peddle some of those videos. BroadbandTV has announced its acquisition of YoBoHo, a leading children’s network on YouTube.
YoBoHo’s network spans 8,000 videos across 27 owned-and-operated channels that combine to achieve three billion yearly views, according to a press release from BroadbandTV. The network’s most prominent channel is Hoopla Kidz, which provides songs and education materials to more than 1.4 million subscribers.
By acquiring YoBoHo, BroadbandTV gains an important foothold in the children’s programming industry. The release notes a study from Nielsen that shows at 87% growth in online video consumption over the past three years for viewers ages 2-11.
“We’re very pleased to conclude the acquisition of a top player in the kids space at a time when the kids content vertical is experiencing burgeoning growth,” said BroadbandTV Founder and CEO Shahrzad Rafati in the release. “BBTV is also making a multi-million dollar investment in YoBoHo to further expand its library of original content, broaden its international footprint, and further diversify its revenue streams.”
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but RTL Group, which purchased a majority stake in BroadbandTV for $36 million in 2013, provided funding for the acquisition.
BroadbandTV’s network now encompasses more than 32,000 partner channels that combine to average four billion views per month.
