Hank Green And Friends Sweep The Nation On “Because Awesome” Tour

Hank Green is sweeping through the Northeastern United States. The YouTube star, educator, musician, and presidential interviewer and a few of his friends are touring the nation on a “Tour Because Awesome” that kicked off April 18. 2015 in Chicago.

Green, best known as one-half of the Vlogbrothers and the co-founder of VidCon, is headlining the tour with his band Hank Green and the Perfect Strangers, who make catchy pop punk songs about nerdy topics. Here, for example, is their album Incongruent on Amazon. And below, for another example, is the video for the group’s track about Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling:

Joining Green and company on the tour are four more musical acts: Harry and the Potters, Driftless Pony Club, Rob Scallon, and Andrew Huang. Harry and the Potters

share the Perfect Strangers’ fondness for J.K. Rowling, while the other three performers all have ties to YouTube. Both Scallon and Huang have several hundred thousand subscribers on their respective channels, while Driftless Pony Club is fronted by vlogger (and frequent Hank Green collaborator) Craig “Wheezy Waiter” Benzine.

This is the second time these artists have toured together. The first Tour Because Awesome came to eight cities west of the Mississippi in 2014.

These five acts will hit eight more cities in the Eastern US between April 18th and April 26th. Along the way, Green and his wife Katherine will chronicle the voyage with an official tour podcast, while a Tumblr page has also been set up to provide updates from the road. Nerdfighters who wish to catch Hank and his friends live should venture to that Tumblr, where tickets for the Because Awesome shows are available.
