For nearly eight years and 750 episodes, Jake and Amir told the story of two friends who come up with new, amusing ways to bother each other and everyone else around them. Now, it has come to an end. CollegeHumor posted the final episode of Jake Hurwitz and Amir Blumenfeld‘s web series on April 7th, 2015.
In the final episode, the titular duo gets fired from CollegeHumor after unleashing a vulgar film on the world. As they pack up their desks, they look back at one of their first videos, contemplate what to do next, and offer their thanks to the team that helped their web series roll up millions of views.
While this is the end of the Jake and Amir web series, it is hardly the end of the enduring bromance between Hurwitz and Blumenfeld. The two CollegeHumor writers also host a podcast called If I Were You, which has aired for 146 episodes.
Jake and Amir‘s fans have a bigger goal in mind: TV. In 2013, Hurwitz and Blumenfeld planned a TV adaptation of their series alongside producer Ed Helms. As Hurwitz and Blumenfeld noted in their podcast, they wrote and submitted their pilot to TBS, but the cable channel has not yet responded. By posting tweets with the hashtag #GreenlightJakeAndAmir, fans hope TBS “will have no choice but to notice us and realize that taking on Jake and Amir as a new show would be a great decision for them.”
Since its launch, the #GreenlightJakeAndAmir campaign has picked up steam, with celebrities like Rainn Wilson, Rick Fox, and Moby joining the cause. The fans have shown they want a Jake and Amir TV show; now, the ball is in TBS’ court.
