On March 24, 2015, a book based on the YouTube channel The Haunting of Sunshine Girl will hit shelves. In anticipation of that date, Sunshine Girl star Paige McKenzie and her team are doing everything they can to get the word out. McKenzie appeared in a segment on NBC’s Today and released a trailer on her YouTube channel in order to promote The Haunting of Sunshine Girl: Book One.
Today, which has recently featured Michelle Phan, Grace Helbig, and Susan Wojcicki as guests, seems to be taking an interest in YouTube. On a recent show, it devoted a segment to Sunshine Girl, which it dubbed “Today‘s Next Big Thing.” The featurette discusses McKenzie’s YouTube success and notes the upcoming book, which was born out of a multiplatform agreement with The Weinstein Company.
Meanwhile, on the Sunshine Girl channel, a trailer sets the mood for the upcoming book. It features blurbs from horror masters Wes Craven and R.L. Stine, both of whom offer praise for the literary adaptation.
The Weinstein Company took an interest in the 20-year-old McKenzie after noticing her success on YouTube, where she has 238,000 subscribers and 124 million views. In addition to the book, The Weinstein Company’s Sunshine Girl deal also covers a feature film adaptation.
NewMediaRockstars notes that McKenzie will also promote the book during an April 16th event at YouTube Space LA.
The Haunting of Sunshine Girl: Book One–which was co-written by McKenzie and Alyssa Sheinmel–won’t arrive until March 24th, but it is currently available for preorder from multiple online outlets, including Amazon.
