As it looks to diversify its library of original content, Netflix is distributing everything from comedies to kids’ shows to documentaries to feature films. Among the streaming platform’s upcoming releases is Marco Polo, an historical epic about the titular explorer’s journey across Asia.
The series stars Lorenzo Richelmy as Polo, the famed explorer who traveled to Mongol China in the 13th century and encountered Mongol leader Kublai Khan. The ten-episode season will chronicle these travels, and a release from Netflix notes that the series will feature “a world replete with greed, betrayal, sexual intrigue and rivalry.”
Marco Polo, which will arrive on December 12th across all Netflix territories,is the next non-children’s series in the company’s pipeline. Other upcoming Netflix offerings include a trio of series based off existing DreamWorks characters and Bloodline, an intriguing drama from the creators of Damages.
