Description: Just in time for Halloween, Steve Desmond and Michael Sherman have come to Kickstarter with a spooky pitch. Desmond and Sherman are the creators of Monsters, a short film that will ultimately grow into an entire anthology of horror stories.

The protagonist of Monsters is a ten-year-old girl named Jenn, who has lived in an underground bunker for her entire life because the outside world has been deemed unsafe. During the film, she heads outside for the first time, where she finds a landscape inhabited by all sorts of terrifying monsters. As Desmond explains in his pitch video, Jenn’s unique perspective will make for a unique series. “Jenn has never actually seen one of these monsters, so she’s not actually afraid of them like everyone else,” he explains.

Monsters‘ creators hope it can ultimately stand as the first part of an anthology series called Twisted Avenue. Each episode would have it’s own twisty arc, similar to The Twilight Zone or The Outer Limits (which serve as chief inspirations for the series).

Creator Bio: Desmond and Sherman are a pair of USC film school grads. Together, they form Dreaming Ants, a studio whose previous projects include a sci-fi adventure called The Searcher and a crime mystery called On Your Doorstep.

Best Perk: The perks for Monsters are fairly straightforward, so it’s best perhaps best to go with the most economical choice. For $50, backers receive a number of different perks, including a DVD copy of the film, its screenplay, and its score.

Why You Should Fund It: Anthology series like American Horror Story, True Detective, and Fargo have emerged as some of the most best TV shows on cable, but as Desmond notes, the “monster-of-the-week” style anthology series is mostly a relic of the past. He hopes Twisted Avenue can provide a revival, and its enticing concept art makes us believe Desmond and Sherman are capable of creating a series that will be a strong tribute to the material that inspires it. If that isn’t enough of a reason to give, Kickstarter has also made Monsters a staff pick. It’s Halloween season! Go fund something spooky.
