Study Explains How Movie Trailers Rule YouTube [INFOGRAPHIC]

On October 16th, Google Think Insights released its quarterly YouTube Trailers Leaderboard, which ranks the ten trailer videos released within the past three months that have drawn the most views.

As with previous iterations, movie trailers are king. While a few video game trailers (such as that of Destiny) found their way to the top ten, the most viewed trailers on the list previewed blockbusters like Fifty Shades of Grey, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 (which had two separate trailers on the list), and big-budget Bollywood entry Bang Bang.

The number one spot belonged to another highly-anticipated Hollywood production: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. The official teaser for third installment of the Lord of the Rings prequel franchise received more than 17 million views between July and September.

In order to learn more about consumer behavior related to movie trailers, Google conducted a study alongside Millward Brown Digital that looked at the influence of trailers online. After combing through Google search results and gathering responses from more than 1,500 participants, Google and MIllward Brown Digital arranged the most compelling results in a sleek infographic. Check it out for yourself, so that you too can spend the rest of the day trying to figure out why comedy fans and soccer fans apparently overlap with each other.
