Dolby Provides Top-Shelf Sound For ‘Video Game High School’

Freddie Wong and Matt Arnold‘s Video Game High School is known for its impressive production value, which far outstrips most other web series. Now, thanks to a deal with Dolby Laboratories, the team at Rocket Jump will bring top-of-the-line sound to season three of VGHS.

Dolby assisted Rocket Jump by providing sound design and mixing services for the newest installment of VGHS, which arrives on October 13th and is co-produced by Rocket Jump and Collective Digital Studio. The result is 5.1 surround sound, which is also used in blockbuster films and TV shows.

Dolby is using the VGHS partnership as one part of a campaign called the “Made for Web Audio Program“, which seeks to educate digital content creators and promote the use of high-quality sound in digital productions. In addition to Rocket Jump, Dolby has also partnered with several other online video creators as part of the initiative, including Corridor Digital and Michael Gallagher. The Made for Web Audio Program will run through 2015 as Dolby continues to identify content creators who could make use of premium sound.

“Audiences are consuming digital content on an ever-expanding array of devices and services that support multi-channel audio, including large smart TVs and video game consoles, and also on mobile devices,” said Glenn Kiser, Director of the Dolby Institute, in a release. “As a result, made-for-digital content is sitting alongside more traditional media, and for certain genres – such as action, sci-fi and horror – where audio is such a crucial storytelling device – it’s critical that creators meet the audience’s heightened expectations concerning quality.”

Brand deals have assisted VGHS throughout its run. Last season, a deal with Dodge gave Rocket Jump the augmented budget it needed to pull off its incredible action sequences. This time around, Dolby’s assistance will make VGHS sound better than it ever has before.
