Katharine McPhee Discusses Charity Work On ‘Pizza With an Icon’ Series

While many web series focus on providing unadulterated entertainment, Hans Zimmer’s Pizza With an Icon series seeks to raise awareness for the causes that matter to various human rights activists. For its second episode, the show’s guest was singer and actress Katharine McPhee.

Co-created by Hollywood composer Zimmer and Hollywood philanthropy consultant Bonnie Abaunza, Pizza With an Icon invites Los Angeles teens to pizza parties and discussions with people who are trying to make the world a better place. In episode 2, McPhee showed up at Zimmer’s Santa Monica studio to discuss her work with the Malaria No More charity. Through trips Ghana and Burkina Faso, the actress has taken a stand against one of the leading global causes of children’s deaths and has participated in Malaria No More’s “Power of One” campaign, whose motto is “one dollar saves one life.”

“It’s such a tragedy that there are people dying from something that is so easy to cure,” McPhee said to The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s important for people to know that it’s not that hard to make a dent in a small part of the world that you may not necessarily even have any connection with.”

McPhee is one of the first guests on the show, but there are many more lined up, including Nobel laureates, artists, athletes, and scientists. The first episode introduced teens to John Prendergast, co-founder of the Enough Project, and Quinto Okello, activist with Invisible Children.

You can watch both episodes on the Pizza With an Icon YouTube channel.
