Ylvis (Of “The Fox” Fame) Tries To Turn Tying Knots Into A Dance Craze

Last September, Ylvis released “The Fox” and became a household name. It’s been one year since the Norwegian comedy duo’s big hit, and this September, brothers Vegard and Bård Ylvisåker are back. This time, though, they’re not asking “What does the fox say?” Instead, they want to learn how to tie one of the most complex knots in the world.

Ylvis’ new song is called “Trucker’s Hitch“, and it features a combination of American country music and EDM. The song starts out plainly before transitioning to a zany chorus, where a group of rope experts dressed in fezzes and hammer pants pull off a choreographic dance. As with “The Fox”, Ylvis ends “Trucker’s Hitch” in the woods, where they teach viewers how to do the song’s titular dance.

Ylvis were well-known in their native Norway before their animalistic dance moves and vulpine exclamations turned them into the biggest viral video stars of 2013. With “Trucker’s Hitch”, they seem to be employing the same strategy Psy has employed for his post-“Gangnam Style” videos: Use the same basic musical skeleton, but with a new theme that lends itself to its own outrageous music video.

This is the third single Ylvis has released since “The Fox”, joining “The Cabin” and “Massachusetts“. I don’t think “Trucker’s Hitch” is going to receive 448 million views or reach #6 on the Billboard charts, but it will definitely be stuck in my head for the rest of the day.
