By now, you’ve probably read about Apple’s announcement of their new Apple Watch, and if you haven’t, you’re not missing anything. That, at least, is what Jack Douglass (known as Jacksfilms on YouTube) is assuming in his recent parody video, “The Apple Watch.”
Douglass released his video on September 9, the same day as Apple’s announcement. The parody intentionally mocks the so-called “features” of the Apple Watch. Douglass keeps mislabeling the device as the “iWatch,” a jab at Apple’s deviation from their typical nomenclature. He also questions the effectiveness of viewing YouTube videos or browsing images on such a tiny screen, the inclusion of the maps we already have on our smartphones, and several other unnecessary features like “sharing heartbeats.”
Douglass’s video reflects many of the negative opinions (either unspoken or public) about the Watch already floating around the internet since its announcement. He ends with the sentence, “You didn’t really ask for it, so here you go.” While true to a degree, the statement reflects the sentiments of Apple’s founder Steve Jobs, who was notorious for saying, “People don’t know what they want until you give it to them.”
Only time will tell if Apple fans will flock to purchase the Watch for the proposed $349, though Douglass, as with many others, doesn’t seem to be betting on it.
