On September 7th, the Streamy Awards will celebrate the online video creators who defined their industry in 2014. Ahead of the event, four entertainers have been presented with their own special honors. Tyler Oakley, Michelle Phan, Shay Carl, and Pitbull are the first ever recipients of the Streamys ICON Awards, which “recognize the accomplishments of remarkable individuals who have demonstrated true leadership in online video and entertainment.”
Each Icon Award winner was honored in one of four broad categories. Oakley’s work with The Trevor Project helped earn him the “Activism” ICON Award, Phan’s beauty videos led the way to an “Inspiration” award, Carl’s status as a Maker Studios founder made him a logical choice in the “Entrepreneurship” category, and Pitbull’s ability to engage audiences around the word led him to a “Convergence” award.
“The Streamys have always honored emerging talent in the online video community, but this year, these innovators have engaged audiences with their creativity and impacted the zeitgeist like never before,” said Michael Mahan
, President of Streamys producer dick clark productions. “It’s my honor to recognize Pitbull, Tyler Oakley, Michelle Phan, and Shay Carl with the inaugural Streamys ICON Awards Presented by Samsung for their accomplishments and social influence in online video and entertainment.”The four ICON Award winners will be honored during the Streamy Awards ceremony, which will begin at 7:30 PM PST on September 7th. A separate ceremony offered a special dinner for the ICON Award winners and their guests, which led to a night full of great Instagram photos.
A live stream of the Streamys will be available from the event’s official website.
