With more than 2.5 billion monthly views across 20,000 partner channels, BroadbandTV is one of the leading multi-channel networks (MCNs) in the online video space. As with other MCNs, BroadbandTV has taken a particular interest in online gaming. In an effort to increase its profile among that community, BroadbandTV has announced 11 new shows on its gaming vertical, TGN.
TGN debuted its new look with an unusual, futuristic introductory video:
The new shows on TGN are a mixed bag. A self-descriptive series called Gaming In Real Life, bring a reality format to the network. For more serious gamers, Underground will shine light on indie titles that have yet to receive much mainstream exposure. Over on Twitch, TGN will deliver a pair of live-streaming options, including a quiz program called Trivia Battle.
In some ways, this rebranding resembles the one Maker Studios undertook last year when it launched Polaris, an updated version of its Game Station vertical. Polaris has given Maker’s creators new opportunities by launching shows that feature numerous stars, and TGN will make room for its own gamers through collaborative programs like PlayTime
.At the same time, some key differences will separate TGN from the gaming ventures of BroadbandTV’s MCN competitors. In particular, TGN will maintain a clear focus on gaming itself, and will not branch out to embrace other “geek culture” topics.
“We’re creating a bigger tent for gamers at the new TGN,” said Andrew Wall, Head of Network Development at TGN. “Historically, we were known as the best network that would give aspiring gamers their start in the business. Now, our successful growth, rich industry knowledge and tightened focus will significantly elevate TGN to becoming the number one brand for the most serious gaming creators.”
Gamers within the BroadbandTV network include Kyr Sp33dy, SethBling, and “Good Looking Gamer” Ryan McNulty.
