YouTube Makes It Easier To Stream To Chromecast From Your Browser

Google’s useful Chromecast dongle celebrated its first birthday this July, and YouTube has given it a belated birthday gift. A new update will allow users to easily cast videos to Chromecast from the desktop version of YouTube.

Previously, YouTube’s Chromecast functionality was based around its mobile app, from which it was very easy to send individual videos to Internet-ready TVs. Browser users, on the other hand, had to download a special Cast extension for Google Chrome.

The new update will make the browser-to-Chromecast experience just as easy thanks to a new button on the YouTube player that

will instantly cast whatever video is currently playing. Another mobile-only YouTube feature was the ability to create a queue of videos to play through Chromecast, and the new update brings that function to the browser version as well.

The updated Google Chrome features are a part of the small redesign that we wrote about earlier today. This is a small-but-smart change that will make better use of Chromecast. If you don’t yet have one of Google’s digital TV dongles, they are still available for $35.
