Nicki Minaj‘s risqué new music video is smashing records. The singer’s video for the song “Anaconda” has drawn 76 million views in its first week on YouTube after breaking Miley Cyrus‘ record for the most release-day views on a VEVO video.
The “Anaconda” video debuted on Minaj’s VEVO channel on August 19th and instantly drew a polarizing reaction thanks to its scantily-clad star and her butt-jiggling skills. Within a day, the video achieved 19.6 million views across all platforms, nipping the 19.3 million first-day views Miley Cyrus received for her “Wrecking Ball” video.
The video’s pace has slowed since its release, but the 76 million views in its first week is still one of the biggest hauls in YouTube history (“Wrecking Ball”, in comparison, scored more than 100 million views in its first seven days.)
If you haven’t seen the video, you can check it out below. Do note, however, that it is somewhat NSFW:
Between “Anaconda” and “Wrecking Ball”, it’s clear that the path to music video glory involves showing as much skin as possible. Viewers who don’t enjoy that approach can at least take solace in the fact that “Anaconda” will like inspire an epic Steve Kardynal parody.
