Bedrocket, PGA Tour Team Up To Let YouTubers Golf With The Pros

Golf has a reputation as the sport of retirees, but the PGA Tour wants to show that there are plenty of younger folks who enjoy a round on the links. The main organization in charge of professional golf tours has teamed up with Bedrocket for a web series that will be the golf equivalent of Dancing With The Stars.

The series is tentatively titled Clubbed, and it will pair professional golfers with YouTubers who enjoy the sport. No specific names have been announced yet, but Bedrocket plans to search YouTube for potential participants. “There are a ton of young celebrities and athletes and musicians who are deeply passionate about golf,” said Bedrocket CEO Brian Bedol. “We suspect that there are YouTubers who are, too.”

Clubbed will be filmed toward the end of the year, with a planned Q1 2015 release. It will feature six golfers and 12 YouTubers, with each pro mentoring a pair of competitors. This format will be crucial if Bedrocket fails to find enough YouTubers with capable golf skills, since it will allow novices to learn the sport on the fly.

Bedrocket has established itself as a capable partner for sports leagues looking to expand online. It previously launched KickTV, a YouTube channel created in tandem with the MLS. It also runs Network A, which provides a home for a plethora of extreme sports content.

On the other side, Clubbed represents the first made-for-digital YouTube series the PGA Tour has produced. “It’s part of a real initiative to demonstrate that golf appeals to all demographics ,not just that over 30 demo,” explained Bedol. “We just haven’t really made the public aware of that.”

The first step, though, is to find interested YouTubers who want to participate in the series. To apply, talent should email contact details, a link to their YouTube page, and a description of their interest/skill in golf to clubbed@bedrocket.com.
