YouTube Gives Its TV App A Makeover

The YouTube app for connected TVs just got a whole lot sleeker. It has been redesigned to give users a cleaner, more personal experience, and Xbox One owners are the first people who can test it out.

The redesigned app assists users who watch YouTube videos through set-top boxes, game consoles, and other digital TV devices. According to a blog post from YouTube, one of the update’s main goals is to decrease the amount of time it takes to find a particular video. A sidebar on the left side of the screen directs users to various playlists and subscriptions, just like on the browser-based YouTube site. Also, accessing a channel now displays a full complement of available playlists. According to YouTube, these changes cut down “all the clicking around you have to do.” They’ll also encourage users to log in on their TVs in order to gain access to a sidebar full of subscriptions.

The app’s layout also received a facelift. Just like with YouTube’s logo, the TV app has fallen into to lockstep with other Google properties, which all feature the same understated look.

These new features are immediately available on the Xbox One, though we can expect them to roll out across other connected devices in the near future.
