YouTube Millionaires: Anneorshine’s “Style Reflects Upon Who I Am”

Welcome to YouTube Millionaires, where we profile channels that have recently crossed the one million subscriber mark. There are channels crossing this threshold every week, and each has a story to tell about YouTube success. Read previous installments of YouTube Millionaires here.

Many YouTube style gurus, whether they are makeup experts or nail artists or “haul girls”, tend to focus on one aspect of the style genre. Not so for Ann Le. The Orange County-based YouTuber has accrued more than a million subscribers on her Anneorshine channel, and she’s done it with a wide variety of videos. Through DIY tutorials, choice looks, and home decoration videos, Le covers the entire spectrum of lifestyle videomaking. Here’s what she had to say about her YouTube success story:

Ann Le: It feels really good but it is also very surreal.  I still can’t grasp it, as it’s not a physical thing other then a number on a screen.  But thinking about the numbers, it feels like I’ve hit a major milestone.  I’m so thankful and I feel very touched that I’ve been able to reach a million subscribers and millions of views.  I’m humbled that so many people have enjoyed my videos and what I’ve shared with them.  I would love to give each and every one of my viewers a great hug and a thank you from the bottom of my heart for joining me on this journey.

TF: You have a wide variety of videos on your channel. Is there a singular theme that you think ties them all together?

AL: The underlying theme is to open up your mind to new creative possibilities by inspiring yourself to try new things and to step outside of the box.  Whether it is through style video, a DIY tutorial, or an artistic video, it is important to me that I inspire my viewers to discover their inner creativity and rekindle their love for themselves.  It is important to explore yourself everyday by trying something new that will open your mind to limitless possibilities. Discover yourself through creativity.

TF: What would you say makes your particular style stand out in the crowded YouTube style landscape?

AL: My style is me.  It is who I am.  I am someone who likes to have fun, who likes to explore new looks, who loves self expression, who is a mother, an artist, and a business woman.  My style reflects upon who I am.

TF: How do you think being a mother influences the subject matter and style of your videos?

AL: I want to make content that multiple generations can love and enjoy.  I have had viewers tell me that they love to work on DIY’s with their parents.  In this day and age, it’s tough to find time to make these personal connections and I love to help foster that connection between family generations.  It is also important that I make content that my son will be proud of not just today, but when he has his own children that he can show my videos to.

TF:  On a similar note, do you think your personal style has noticeably changed since you started making videos on YouTube?

AL: Oh absolutely.  Watching myself and seeing what works and doesn’t work on me has allowed me to see myself from a different perspective and opened me to improvement.  It has also opened my mind to other ideas and style cues from around the world.

TF: What do you think is the single most important piece of style-related advice you have given to your viewers?

AL: Be yourself.  Express who you are.  Don’t listen to or pay attention to what people want.  Do what makes you happy.

TF: How often do you partner with brands and what do you think makes a good brand partner?

AL: I partner with brands when I feel like I have a connection.. .I am very selective on who I work with as my viewers are more important to me then selling out.  A good brand partner would trust the creator to express their creativity without restriction and understand that organic content is more fulfilling and effective then a piece of scripted content.  I have worked with quite a few great brand partners and still work with many of them presently.

TF: Do you view Instagram as more of a tool for furthering your career as a style guru or a fun, carefree platform for expressing yourself?

AL: I find Instagram is a fun and carefree platform to express myself and for others to see myself in a different light.  It allows my viewers to see a snapshot of my day and allows me to connect with them on a more personal level.

TF: What’s next for your channel? Any fun plans?

AL: Yes, I have a lot of ideas in mind.  Right now, I would like to build a team so I can expand my channel to show other creative sides of me.  I would like to continue making inspirational content that my viewers will explore their creativity with.
