Judd Apatow Reportedly Planning A Comedy Series For Hulu

Hulu has apparently passed on the opportunity to resurrect Community, but it looks as if the online platform has a different big-name comedy series on its mind. According to Vulture, it is reportedly in advanced talks about Love, a romantic comedy created by Judd Apatow that could star Community‘s Gillian Jacobs.

Hulu has not offered any comments on the rumored project, but reports claim a pilot script for Love has already been written. Apatow would run the show alongside Paul Rust (Comedy Bang! Bang!) and Lesley Arfin. Arfin, formerly a writer on Girls, was previously linked to a half-hour Yahoo sitcom titled 34 and Pregnant, though that project doesn’t seem to be related to Love.

Love, like many other “Apatowian” comedies, would be a show about relationships, with a “messed-up” couple residing at its center. Rust would likely serve as one of the co-stars, and if Jacobs joins the show, she could play alongside him.

Love would be Apatow’s first TV series since Undeclared went off the air in 2001. Before that, Apatow produced Freaks and Geeks, which emerged as a cult hit and helped propel both Apatow and a few of the show’s lead actors to stardom. The creator of Freaks and Geeks, Paul Feig, has already announced his plan to return to the sitcom format through a sci-fi comedy he will release through Yahoo.

On Hulu’s end, Love would be the most prominent original series the platform has ever hosted. For a company trying to keep up with the Netflixes and Amazons of the world, this would be a huge get.
