Back in 2012, Katy Perry: Part of Me hit worldwide theaters. The film, which chronicle’s the pop star’s 2011 tour, was a modest box-office success, grossing $32 million over a $13 million budget. Now, as Perry prepares to embark on her latest world tour, fans who wish to see the film again can watch it through Facebook. Part of Me is available on Perry’s Facebook page through a player powered by Screenburn.
Screenburn’s platform allows users to rent Perry’s film On Demand and watch it inside her Facebook page. This isn’t the first time Screenburn has powered a film across Facebook, but company director Tom Raffe claims “Katy’s is certainly a landmark release simply because of the incredibly passionate following she has on the platform and throughout social media.”
The platform also fits nicely into Facebook’s online video plans. The social networking giant is chasing after Hollywood stars with whom it can enter into exclusive distribution deals, and while Part of Me is widely available, Perry is exactly the sort of big name who Facebook hopes will distribute content on her fan page.
A 48-hour rental of the film costs $4.
