Must-Watch Music Videos: Black Lips’ ‘Boys In The Wood’ Are Wild

[Editor’s Note: Two major trends have emerged in the recent history of new media: 1) Music videos are the new music and 2) YouTube is the new MTV. With that in mind and to keep you up to speed with the greatest and latest in this online video category, Tubefilter has partnered with INDMUSIC, YouTube’s largest independent music network, to bring you at least one must-watch music video every week. After a nearly three-year drought Atlanta psych-rockers The Black Lips are back with a supremely insane NSFW anthem.

Boys in the Wood‘ (like many a horror flick) is somewhat of a cautionary tale of what happens when dudes get drunk, in this case, in the woods. Although this may represent an extreme perspective of boys’ inebriated shenanigans, don’t forget that it’s all in good fun. The Black Lips are known for their sense of humor for one, and also for putting on consistently awesome live performances. They’re one of the best bands around at getting hammered on stage and still managing to sound great. And when they’re not on stage or in the woods, they even have time for a little love and protest.

If you’re squeamish, be wary of the last half of the video, but trust me when I say that the pay off is grand and quite incredible.

The video also features some notable cameos from respectable Atlanta partiers The ATL Twins and rapper/author Curtis Snow, among many others. And for a video that is just a bunch of dudes getting smashed in the woods (both figuratively and literally), it’s more than entertaining. It’s like a darker version of Jackass, except the music is better (sorry CKY) and the blood is fake.

The new album Underneath the Rainbow is coming out just in time for SXSW on March 18 via VICE Records. You can check out more tour dates here, as the band will be hitting the road extensively in support of the new record. If they hit your town, make sure you join them for a drunken sing-a-long.
