Isabella Rossellini’s ‘Green Porno’ Web Series Goes On Stage

Isabella Rossellini has been explaining and interpreting the sex acts of animals on camera in hyper-colored and papercrafted anatomically correct costumes since way back in 2008. That’s when the Italian model, actress, and former Mrs. Scorsese debuted Green Porno. It’s an original web series from the Sundance Channel that has so far spawned three distinct seasons comprised of dozens of episodes, each of which features Rossellini and conveys legitimate and interesting animal reproductive facts in a style that’s equal parts visually appealing, comical, and informative.

It’s a good series. And it’s birthed a stage show now, too.

Green Porno just completed it’s limited run at Brooklyn’s famed BAM performing arts venue on January 25, 2014. The one-woman show starring Rossellini, written by Rossellini and Jean-Claude Carriere

, staged by Muriel Mayette, and light and video designed by Antoine Manichon received a touch-more-than-tepid review from Neal Genzlinger at the New York Times, who was particularly intrigued by the show’s “testament to nature’s amazing variety.” He also warned that, despite the play’s name, it will probably act as a kind of anti-aphrodisiac.
