Must-Watch Music Videos: ‘Get Strict’ With Yip Deceiver’s Dance Moves

[Editor’s Note: Two major trends have emerged in the recent history of new media: 1) Music videos are the new music and 2) YouTube is the new MTV. With that in mind and to keep you up to speed with the greatest and latest in this online video category, Tubefilter has partnered with INDMUSIC, YouTube’s largest independent music network, to bring you at least one must-watch music video every week. Turn up your volume and we hope you enjoy the analysis, sites, and sounds. For more Must-Watch Music Video installments, click here.]

The best part about Athens, GA-based synth-y pop-rock band Yip Deciever, aside from the flurry of adjectives you can use to describe them and their unique sound, is that they don’t take themselves too seriously.  Sometimes, this can be a detriment to the music; in this instance it heightens both the fun bombastic dance vibes on the album as well as the band’s ability to throw together a supremely bad-ass video with some awesome guests and cameos.

Thirty seconds into Get Strict, you’ll wonder, ‘Where has this band been all my life!?’ And yes, that is Reggie Watts, co-host of the upcoming YouTube Music Awards, who apparently, in addition to singing like an angel, and being hilarious – can also dance like the best of them.

Yip Deceiver has a pretty impressive lineage as well, featuring former members of Of Montreal and Rubies, which may be why the video features a slew of flamboyant costumes and settings. There’s nothing quite like a music video that features shotgun-toting nuns, a breakdancing Santa and a majestic white steed.

I’m willing to bet that a fair number of the costumes in Get Strict make the cut for Halloween this year. I’m personally torn between bikini clad Storm Trooper and disco ball ballerina, but then again, how could I go wrong with either? Get Strict is off of Yip Deceiver’s latest album Medallius and is out now on New West Records.  Check out more from the band including some extensive tour dates here.
