VEVO Hires Nielsen Vet To Increase Focus On Revenue

VEVO‘s newest hire knows a thing or two about digital media. The multi-channel music network has hired Jonathan Carson, formerly of Nielsen, and has named him the company’s first Chief Revenue Officer.

At Nielsen, Carson led the company’s digital division; under his watch, the well-known Nielsen ratings expanded to better incorporate Twitter volume and online views for select programs. Before that role, he helped found several digital companies, including Buzzmetrics, which is now owned by Nielsen. “Jonathan has built his reputation as an entrepreneur and innovator,” said VEVO CEO Rio Caraeff. “As VEVO continues to expand on new platforms and into more territories, Jonathan is the ideal person to join our team and accelerate the growth of our business. We are very lucky to have him.”

The new platforms and territories Caraeff mentions in his quote have begun to take shape. The company recently launched a service in Germany

, and its VEVO TV music channel is still very young. Both of these efforts represent VEVO’s attempt to break free from YouTube, and as it establishes itself as an independent property, Carson’s expertise will help create an enticing platform for advertisers.

“VEVO is leading one of the biggest trends in the media industry today: the convergence of mobile, TV and digital into a single video marketplace,” said Carson. “I am thrilled to join VEVO to further connect big brand marketers and consumers through what has already proven to be one of the most forward-thinking premium platforms.” VEVO has 232 million yearly users, so Carson already has a large army of hungry consumers on his side.
