Shark Week, along with Mythbusters and that joke about how Bear Grylls drinks his own piss, has become one of the most important cultural touchstones for the Discovery Channel. Naturally, Discovery’s most prominent web property is joining in on the fun. Multi-channel network Revision3 will serve as an online hub for Shark Week.
For the 25th anniversary of the yearly selachian celebration, Revision3 will set up two landing pages–one on the main site and one on TestTube–from which users can explore Shark Week content. Revision3 will showcase 40 shark-themed series from 20 channels across the Discovery Digital Network. In addition, it will launch The Discovery Sharks, a channel that continues the network’s trend of repurposing archival Discovery footage by setting 25 years of shark footage to soothing music.
Shark Week begins on Sunday, August 4th, but Revision3 has already given viewers a taste of its programming in a funny trailer starring Anthony Carboni as a particularly vengeful shark.
I know everyone on the Internet loves Shark Week, so you have no excuse not to check out Revision3 once the underwater adventure begins. In the meantime, you’ll have to count down the days.
