Noted web series creator Scott Brown is back. When we last heard from the one time Streamy nominee, he was bringing dark humor to the slasher genre with Stockholm. For his next act, Brown is exploring the world of petty, superficial sororities. He is the creative mind behind Destroy The Alpha Gammas, a collegiate musical with an attitude.
With its musical heart and young cast, Destroy The Alpha Gammas is immediately reminiscent of Glee, although its trailer is sure to remind each viewer that “you’re not in glee club anymore.” Instead, the series takes place at a university, where two rival sororities, one popular and one not, will do everything they can to make each others’ lives miserable. I’m expecting the opening scene of West Side Story mixed with The House Bunny.
Actress and pop singer Leah McKendrick wrote the script, and she also stars as Carrie, the leader of the less popular Delta Pi sorority. Brown–whose previous credits include Blue Movies and Asylum–serves as the director and producer. “[Destroy The Alpha Gammas] is fun, exciting, and ultimately explores themes that matter dearly to me,” said Brown. “Told through the lens of a pop musical, the writing does an excellent job of going beyond the preconceptions of the Greek system, to find something innately human in each of the characters.”
The first episode of Destroy The Alpha Gammas will arrive on YouTube on August 21st, with six more installments to follow. Brace yourselves–it’s about to get catty in here.
