On August 15th, Intel and Toshiba will give you a reason to distrust all of your mustachioed friends. The two tech giants are teaming up to sponsor The Power Inside, a web series where even mustaches will take over the world one Facebook user at a time.
The series, directed by Blades of Glory helmsmen Will Speck and Josh Gordon, combines the ever popular zombie comedy genre with the magical powers of facial hair. If the trailer is to be believed, an alien mustache invasion will be the central element of the story, with the aliens possessing humans by growing on their upper lips. A ragtag group of humans, led by Harvey Keitel and Analeigh Tipton, will have to fight them off.
Joining Keitel and Tipton in the cast will be thousands of Facebook users, who can join the forces of either good or evil
by interacting with production company Inside Films’ page. Those who shave will be considered normal humans, and those with moustaches will serve as alien invaders. If you want to be a good guy, but you can’t live without your facial hair, you can always go with the Amish look. The Power Inside will debut in August, but the ending will depend on viewer turnout to each of the belligerents. If you’d like to be a neutral third party, you can still check out the series on YouTube or Facebook. Judging from the title and the brands involved, I’m guessing the climax will involve humans who try to destroy aliens with their Toshiba computers. That may seem far-fetched, but if Jeff Goldblum can destroy a mothership using only a 1996 PowerBook, anything is possible.
