Tom Brady Quarterbacks His Second Funny Or Die Sketch

Tom Brady returns to training camp tomorrow, but before he does, the Patriots quarterback has decided to spend a little time in the off-season spotlight. Brady is one of two central characters in ‘Tom Brady’s Best Friend‘, a Funny or Die sketch branded by Under Armour where he must deal with a clingy ‘friend’.

The video is a follow-up to a video from last year, ‘Tom Brady’s Wicked Accent‘, where Community actor David Neher plays a Dick’s Sporting Goods employee who annoys the heck out of the All-Pro QB by accusing him of possessing a Boston accent he clearly does not have. That video scored more than 1.8 million views, and the sequel is clearly working with the same formula. Neher once again plays his role as a social irritant, Brady acts as the beleaguered straight man, and Under Armour apparel is plastered all over the screen.

The humor is hit or miss, and while ‘Tom Brady’s Best Friend’ isn’t as sharp at the football star’s first Funny or Die effort, fans of the original will enjoy this one as well. At the very least, Bostonians can enjoy a video that features their beloved quarterback without taking any shots at the city’s stereotypical accent. Personally, as a Jets fan, I prejudged the video from the start and can safely call it one of my least favorite videos in the world.

In the end, ‘Tom Brady’s Best Friend’ is a fun diversion from a quarterback who is a very good sport. Given recent events, it’s nice to see a Patriots player make headlines for something a little more…wholesome.
