Must-Watch Music Videos: ‘Pay No Mind’ If It’s Not Hanni El Khatib

[Editor’s Note: Two major trends have emerged in the recent history of new media: 1) Music videos are the new music and 2) YouTube is the new MTV. With that in mind and to keep you up to speed with the greatest and latest in this online video category, Tubefilter has partnered with INDMUSIC, YouTube’s largest independent music network, to bring you at least one must-watch music video every week. Turn up your volume and we hope you enjoy the analysis, sites, and sounds. For more Must-Watch Music Video installments, click here.]

The new video for “Pay No Mind” from L.A. singer/songwriter/garage rocker, Hanni El Khatib boasts a minimalist aesthetic and delivers fully as an all-out, fast-paced, punk anthem. From the producing prowess of fellow garage-music-savvy rocker Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, the track is the latest single from El Khatib’s newest album, Head in the Dirt.

The video features the two most important staples of rock music: 1) Good-looking ladies and 2) a rock star. Easy-on-the-eyes cheerleaders rock out in an actual garage, dancing to the beat with Hanni’s guitar amps on full blast. The girls gyrating to the music gives the impression that Hanni is doing something right, especially given the quality of their choreography. (Also, bonus points to the first group of girls I see at a Hanni El Khatib show that can nail this routine.)

Hanni already has a fantastic track record for awesome videos. His last two boast an undies clad biker gang and what looks to be a very laid back prison as long as you remember the “no touching” rule. And all of them feature music that may sound as if it comes from a full band, but it’s actually Hanni, who records the parts for all the instruments himself.

No stranger to multi-tasking, Hanni is also an avid skateboarder and once worked as creative director for the clothing label HUF (which might be why the cheerleaders in the above get to sport authentic “HEK” uni’s). Be sure to check out more of Hanni’s content on his channel, including videos from his first album, Will the Guns Come Out. And practice that dance ladies, there will be a test.
