YouTube’s most popular firearms enthusiast has expanded to a second medium. FPSRussia creator Kyle Myers has released FPS Russia: The Game, where players take the role of the Dmitri Potapoff as he fights off waves of baddies.
Myers (who puts on a Russian accent to portray Potapoff) launched a Kickstarter campaign for the game back in November, raising more than $55,000 to fund the project. Five months later, the game is available free of charge from the iOS store.
The game was developed by Zaah Technologies. Its premise centers around Potapoff “borrowing money from the wrong people to create a video game for his fans,” making it one of the most meta iPhone games
around. Obviously, the player must use Potapoff’s arsenal of explosives and firearms to defeat enemies. For a fuller explanation of the game’s flavor, check out the video Myers released alongside the game’s Kickstarter:FPSRussia joins YouTube series such as Epic Meal Time and The Annoying Orange as one of the few channels to release a mobile game. Given Toby Turner’s announcement of his own mobile game, the YouTube-to-iOS journey seems to be becoming a trend. In this case, expect FPSRussia’s 4.2 million fans to get just as excited about Potapoff’s virtual weapons as they do about his real ones.
