Conde Nast To Turn Six More Magazines Into Online Channels

Media company Conde Nast made headlines back in March when it created YouTube channels based around two of its publications, Glamour and GQ. At Digital Content Newfronts, Conde Nast revealed its plan to turn at least six more magazines into online video channels: two in June, and four more later in 2013.

The next two Conde Nast publications to earn souped up channels will be style guide Vogue, which will launch on June 8, and tech magazine Wired, which will debut on June 15. As with the first two Conde Nast channels, expect Vogue and Wired to feature a similar style to that of YouTube’s Original Channels, with a weekly schedule of sleekly produced, genre-specific content. At Newfronts, Conde Nast shared a few trailers, including one that will explore the “heartbeat of Vogue” and another that will show off some of the world’s great hidden engineering gems to Wired viewers.

Later in 2013, four more publications will gain new online video channels: Vanity Fair, Teen Vogue, Style, and Epicurious. These channels will be available on a number of different platforms thanks to Conde Nast’s distribution deals with YouTube, Yahoo, AOL, and other platforms. “Each brand will have its own mix,” said Conde Nast EVP Fred Santarpia.

The two current channels have both seen modest success; in less than two months of activity, Glamour and GQ have combined for over 12 million views. Expect the six upcoming channels to see similarly modest levels of success, and keep your fingers crossed for a New Yorker channel in 2014.
