Indie Spotlight: ‘Kirsten Lives In Los Angeles’, Can’t Catch A Break

We receive a ton of tips every day from independent creators, unaffiliated with any major motion picture studios, television networks, new media studios, or other well-funded online video entities. The Indie Spotlight is where we’ll write about and shout out to a select few of them and bring you up to speed on the great (and sometimes not-so-great) attention-grabbing series you probably haven’t heard about until now.  Read previous installments here.

Kirsten Lives In Los Angeles, a new web series by Andy Viner and Chuck DeRosa, understands that weird, imperfect characters are the best kind of characters. It puts its titular protagonist in the center of a world occupied by Twitter prostitutes, Kickstarter con artists, and wacky high-end furniture craftsmen, letting the zany situations that arise speak for themselves.

The lead actress the series is Kirsten Eggers, who has had some experience on network TV via a role on ABC’s Work It. Here, she does most of her work with her face, which gives viewers a nonstop contortionist act of bulging eyeballs and twisted grimaces. Kirsten isn’t the most vocal of leading ladies, but she is definitely one of the most emotive.

The first episode has her working through an awkward situation at work, where her boss, who creates expensive, gnarly wooden tables, accidentally saws off his own penis while working in the nude. What transpires is a scene that ends up being unusual, strange, graphic, unexpected, and, most of all, memorable. If it’s up your alley, you’ll find the other four episodes of Kirsten Lives In Los Angeles to be similarly off-the-wall.
