Cute kittens are so passé. The new rage? Cute birds. The Pet Collective, a YouTube Original Channel dedicated to animal videos, is the new home of EagleCam, a live streaming video feed that gives viewers a chance to follow the infancy of three recently-hatched bald eagle chicks.
Eagle Cam videos first appeared on our radar back in 2011 when Iowa’s Raptor Resource Project gave viewers a look into the daily life of America’s national bird. Things are a little different now: Aside from the big channel affiliation, the new EagleCam is located on California’s Santa Catalina Island and has a youthful twist. Instead of following adult bald eagles, the EagleCam allowed viewers to watch as three eggs were hatched over the course of a couple days. Now that all the chicks are live, we get to see the parents fight for survival. It’s like an avian Man Vs. Wild
, but with more America.Of course, the major appeal is that these birds are so tiny and fluffy and cute, a trio of adjectives that have powered a number of different animals to internet stardom. The three chicks have yet to be named, but given the role online video has played in their collective infancy, I think they should be named Tay, Judson, and Antoine.
