Ashton Kutcher’s Punk’d is a pretty funny show, but did it have to be so gosh darn mean? That question lies at the heart of That’s A Friend, a new series produced by Principato Young for the Soiled Britches channel.
The Kutcher of That’s A Friend is Damien Dante Wayans, a peripheral member of the famous acting family who bides his time in this series by playing ultimately innocent pranks. In the first episode, he gets YouTube-famous rapper Watsky to fake a fight with huge black man Page Kennedy (who we recently heard on DeStorm’s mixtape
) to see if Watsky’s friend would theoretically be willing to come to his aid in a clearly one-sided fight. In the end, the theme is friendship. The goal of the series is not to humiliate Watsky’s buddy, but rather raise his self-esteem by telling him that he is, in fact, a good friend who would stick up for his fast-rapping pal no matter the odds. Now that’s a message we can all get behind.
